Review: No Mercy by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Blurb:  Live fast, fight hard—and if you have to die, take as many of your enemies with you as you can. That is the Amazon credo and it was one Samia lived and died by. But today, in contemporary New Orleans, the immortal Amazon warrior is about to learn that there’s a worse evil coming to slaughter mankind than she ever could have imagined.

Meet Dev Peltier. A shapeshifter who has stood guard at the front of Sanctuary for almost two hundred years, he’s seen it all—or so he thought. His enemies have just discovered a new source of power—one that makes a mockery of anything faced to date. Now the war is on and it’s up to Dev and Samia to guard ground zero. But in order to win, they will have to break the most cardinal of all rules—and pray it doesn’t unravel the universe as we know it…

What Jen thought:  Well, anyone who has been a fan of the blog since we started it, knows that I’ve read most of what Sherrilyn Kenyon has written and absolutely love her Dark-Hunter series.  In fact, I’ve hooked many a friend into reading them.  If you want to see some of my past reviews of her books, go here.  And now on to my review…

Unfortunately, this book is forgettable.  It felt like Ms Kenyon was just using the romance between Dev and Samia as a backdrop in advancing the war between the Hunters and Daimons.  Now normally, I wouldn’t mind this fact, but the romance and the characters just weren’t developed enough for my tastes.  While I don’t mind having a continuing story line build throughout a series, I think it should always take a back seat to the romance that the current book is supposed to be about.

Maybe the length of time between reading and reviewing is coloring my review.  But I’m finding it hard to remember anything really positive about the book.  Fans of the series will want to read this book in anticipation of future Dark-Hunter novels.  However, if you’re new to Ms Kenyon’s writing, I suggest you start at the beginning of her series with Fantasy Lover.
