Jen: We are happy to welcome Devyn Quinn back to Romancing the Book. Devyn, will you please share a short bio with us? Devyn: Devyn Quinn lives in the scenic Southwest, though she has called several other states home. She is a huge fan of dark gothic music & shoot-’em-up action movies. But reading is her first love and Devyn spends too much time with history books, as well as feeding her addiction for celebrity biographies. She especially enjoys reading books on Hollywood before the 1960’s and is crazy about Marilyn Monroe, her legend and her myth.
Devyn lives with her cats, ferrets, and one little single Shih Tzu doggie, Tess.
Jen: Tell us about Sexy Beast VIII and where it’s available.
Devyn: Sexy Beast VIII is the latest release in the wildly popular anthology series featuring hot tales of shape-shifters and the women who love them. The book will release at the end of March and will be in bookstores and online. You can purchase it at Amazon, Barnes and Noble or Borders.
Jen: Are there any other writers, published or not, in your family?
Devyn: No. I am the only one who is insane enough to follow the notion~
Jen: How does your family feel about your career?
Devyn: They aren’t really wild about it.
Jen: Have you noticed your writer’s voice has changed over the years due to your experience? If so, how?
Devyn: Oh, yes. I can read a book I wrote years ago and just cringe. I would like to think that my writing matures and changes as I do in my own life.
Jen: How do you approach your writing? Do you plot or go with the flow? Devyn: I semi-plot, and then let the characters tell their stories. I am often surprised with bits and pieces of information they reveal as the book unfolds.
Jen: How do you pick the character’s names?
Devyn: I visit baby naming websites and work with combinations until a name clicks in my mind as being the correct one. Sometimes I know a character’s name right away. Other times I have to tinker as they take shape in my mind.
Jen: What did you do to celebrate the sale of your first book?
Devyn: Nothing. Not a darn thing. It was just another day.
Jen: Is there a genre that you’d like to write? Is there a genre you’ll probably stay away from and why?
Devyn: I would like to write romantic suspense. I will never write humor because I don’t have the touch for getting it down on paper.
Jen: Do you feel as if the characters live with you as you write? Do they haunt your dreams? Devyn: Oh, definitely. When I am deep in a book, I will actually dream about what I should write the next day or what the characters should do to solve a certain dilemma.
Jen: If Heart of the Wildcat from Sexy Beast VIII was made into a movie, which actors would you choose to play the hero and heroine?
Devyn: LOL, I would like Halle Berry for Dakoda Jenkins and Johnny Depp for my wild Indian, Jesse Clawfoot.
Jen: What’s the most interesting comment you have received about your books?
Devyn: I had one note from a reader who called me a twisted pervert.
Jen: What’s next for you?
Devyn: I am presently writing book 2 in my “Dark Tides” trilogy. Siren’s Call, the first book in the series (which is about a lot mermaid civilization) will be out August 3, 2010. Book 2, Siren’s Challenge, will continue the story of three mermaid sisters and how they deal with the rediscovery of their lost world.
Jen: Where can you be found on the web?
Jen: Is there anything you’d like to ask our readers?
